We launched a set of new features to Well.ca today. Click here for our annoucement. Wonderful.
One of the things I’ve been interested in recently, is a notion of “pleasant user interfaces“. (If you work at Apple, feel free to replace the word “pleasant” with “sexy”).
Traditionally, when we think of user interfaces, we think of designing an interface that is fast and simple. There are some forms of UI, however, that are not just fast and simple, they’re pleasant. By this I mean, it’s actually fun to use them to perform their core task.
In a recent BarCamp, I joked about this being true in our mail server, Zimbra. It’s actually fun to create new accounts and delete them just because the UI is nice. Creating and deleting email accounts is traditionally very… uh… not-fun.
Making your UI pleasant can be important when the task that the UI performs is something you want to encourage. In our case, adding products to your cart should be fun because because we want to encourage that behavior — in this case by making it animated, simple and visually clear.
Check out Well.ca today and try adding something to your cart — let me know what you think.
We literally launched this an hour or so ago — so let me know if you find any problems.
