French Toast Breakfast at Well.ca from ali on Vimeo.

Well.ca has become known for our french toast (and pancake) breakfasts. It’s appropriate: this video reflects a lot of our culture.

Here’s my famous never-before-shared recipe for amazing (yet simple) french toast:

    Ingredients:

    • 3 eggs
    • 1/2 tbsp salt (usually omitted)
    • 2 tbsp sugar
    • 1 cup milk
    • vanilla essence to taste
    • 6 slices of bread

    Instructions:

    • (see video — it’s pretty obvious)

    The super-secret part:

    • Pre-toast the bread to the point just before it browns. This makes your french toast non-soggy
    • The most important secret to french toast is to use good bread. In the video above, we used a special whole flax seed bread from the West End bakery in downtown Guelph. I also sometimes use raisin bread.
    • Try different toppings. I like to mix cinnamon and sugar and swirl it on top, then fry that part so you get a burnt-sugar-cinnamon swirl on the top. Or add caramelized pears (Alex did that for us one time). Or berries!

  7. The Upsell

The default “optionals” Flowers by Sears offers can be pretty upsetting:

Hmm… What would be meaner: “Congratulations” or “Get Well Soon”?
